How to Master Skyscanner to Fly for Cheap

How to Master Skyscanner to Fly for Cheap

Let us first answer why Sky Scanner appears to offer the cheapest flights. There are numerous reasons, and one of them is that the airlines offer them a lower rate as an incentive to draw people on to their websites. In addition, they lower their rates to help them compete with other airlines by comparison.

One of the main reasons their prices “appear” lower than other websites is because they compare wildly different types of airline ticket with very different pricing structures. For example, one airline may have a listed price that is lower and inflexible, whereas the other airline may have a higher price that allows you to switch the days you fly. Both tickets prices are held up side-by-side on the website.

A Short Word Of Warning

You also have to remember that the SkyScanner simply routes you to different companies, so there is a chance you will be directed to the website of a scammer. There are also plenty of times where you may be led towards an unreliable company. That is why you cannot implicitly trust the company you are directed to simply because you found them through SkyScanner. You still need to do your research and look for negative reviews on other websites before you give the company money or book in any way, just as you would if you had found the airline company through Google.

SkyScanner offers you a means of getting cheaper flights, but if you want the best prices, then use it as one of many research tools for shopping around. SkyScanner doesn’t offer prices from all the airline companies, so you shouldn’t use it exclusively. It is good, but not perfect, so here are a few pros and cons.

Pro – It Is Ideal If You Are Not Bound By Dates

There are plenty of cheap flights for the taking, and the people who really benefit are the ones that are not bound by a date. For example, if you are planning to go somewhere and you can pick your day in the week or month, then you are going to find some great prices. If you have to fly on a certain day, then it is really up to the luck of the draw if you get a good price or not.

There are some people who use this website to find the company and book direct, and there are other people who use the website to find the cheapest companies by comparison. SkyScanner is a strong market research tool, and if you can get a cheaper flight through their website–then you should.

Pro – It Is Easier To Use Than Many Third-Party Websites

There are few bugs within the system and app, with many of them being related to loading times only. Other than this, the website and the app are very easy to use. They are intuitive and unlike other websites, it doesn’t wait until you are on the checkout screen to load you up on extra charges. That is not to say they are completely blameless on the “extra charges” front, it just means they are more transparent than many other third-party booking websites and apps.

Con – The App Could Be Better

Their payment system is not embedded within the app, which smacks of them being cheap when it comes to developers. There is no reason why the payment system couldn’t be kept in the app. All they would need to do is hire a good developer to embed it correctly and securely. They may have their reasons for not having the payment system in the app, but it makes the app a little less convenient than it could be.

The apps are for the Google Android and Apple iOS, and they both have mixed reviews. Many of the complaints seem to revolve around specific app builds (updates). If you want to see if the app is worth downloading, then check the “most recent” reviews on Google Play and Apple iTunes.

Con – It Writes Checks That Its Ass Can’t Cash

There are times when it allows you to find a good price for a flight, but then doesn’t allow you to complete the transaction. You may call up and ask for the special price given on the website, at which point they tell you that their “exclusive” price is not on offer anymore.

The reasons for this are twofold. Part of it is to make the website look as if it is offering cheaper prices than it actually is, and we know this because some of the offers they give are never completed, including offers that were only just listed that day. There are also times when their website is updated sluggishly. It is not specifically the web pages themselves, but the links from active pages to redundant offers that misleads people.

12 Money Saving Tricks for Finding The Cheapest Flights with Skyscanner

The best tip is to use SkyScanner as one of your many research tools for finding the cheapest prices. Once you have found your deal, you need to do your research to ensure it is all you hope–because there are many pricing structures for many different types of flights, deals, and insurance. If a price is very low, ask yourself what the airline is leaving out in order to offer you such a good deal.

1 – Choose Your Credit Card Wisely

Some of them give air miles and some of them are better used abroad than others. Some are better for paying your air tickets than others. It is always better to pay online with a credit card because it gives you more fraud protection. See our best travel credit cards article and our best airlines credit cards article for a round up of the best cards to use with travel / airlines for free points.

2 – Try SkyScanner On Tuesday Afternoon

There is an old-ish myth that airlines put out their cheapest and best offers on Tuesday afternoon to the point where airlines actually started doing it to catch hold of the trend.

3 – Singles Or Returns

Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a single there and a single back rather than buy a return. It may be worth considering if you are looking for very cheap flights.

4 – Watch The Price Of Your Flight

There are some airlines that have a 24-hour cancellation line. If you cancel within 24 hours of your flight, then they refund your money. If your airline does this, then watch the price of your flight, and if it goes down, then cancel your first and then buy the cheaper flight.

5 – Do Not Put All Your Faith In SkyScanner

For example, if you have a problem with your airline and/or booking company, or if you want a refund, then it is not SkyScanner’s problem. The website is simply a search site with certain sponsorships to push certain airlines over others.

6 – Try To Book Earlier

It is often cheaper if you are planning to book six weeks or more weeks in advance. The Airlines reporting corporation in the US found that flights drop to a below-average price at around the six-week mark.

7 – Sign Up For Email Alerts

Get them from different booking websites and airline companies. When a company is eager to sell its empty seats, it will often pump out a few bargains for their subscribers. These are usually generated before they turn up on other websites because emailing subscribers is faster. Sometimes, if there are only a few seats, they will give priority to their email subscribers rather than informing/updating other websites.

8 – Try Searching For A Bunch Of Different Times

When you search for flights, look various times during the day and consider picking a cheaper one. The prices vary wildly during the day, so use the search engines to search for flights during different times of the day and pick the cheapest.

9 – Shop Around For Cheaper Travel Insurance

If you travel frequently, you may be able to get multi-trip travel insurance. Shopping around doesn’t mean using a comparison site, it means using numerous comparison sites and Google to narrow down your selection to the best and cheapest.

10 – Draw Out Money On Bulk

If you are traveling abroad, draw out your money from cash machines or banks in bulk. They often charge you a conversion fee and a transaction fee. You can save money on transaction fees by drawing out larger amounts. However, you then have to consider your personal security if you are marching around with pockets full of cash.

11 – Weigh Your Baggage Before You Leave

This is common knowledge and common sense for most frequent travelers. Weigh your bags before you go so that you do not end up paying extra charges because your bags are a little heavy. Some people wear their extra items to avoid baggage charges, but it is not worth it if the flight is longer than an hour because it gets very uncomfortable.

12 – Bring Your Own Snacks

If your flight comes with a meal, then eat it and nothing else. There is nothing worse than people stuffing themselves on a plane and then needing the toilet for 30 minutes. If the flight charges for snacks, then bring a few of your own. However, make sure they are approved for travel otherwise they will be confiscated. At the moment, regulations are so tight that you cannot carry anything on to a plane that casts a shadow.
